Auto-posting from WordPress to LinkedIn can be done with very little data. What matters is which data goes where: Social Publisher loads no LinkedIn scripts, cookies or tracking pixels on your site, handles the LinkedIn login through its own OAuth proxy, and the free version sends no data to us in the background.
This article describes the plugin’s data flows. It is not legal advice; for your specific situation, ask your data protection officer.
Which data goes where
- To LinkedIn: When you publish, your LinkedIn text, the selected image or PDF and your access token go to the LinkedIn API. That is the purpose of the plugin.
- Through our OAuth proxy: The LinkedIn login runs through social-publisher.enfants.de, operated by Enfants Terribles digital GmbH in Hamburg, Germany.
- To OpenAI (Pro only, only on click): When you click “Rewrite Text”, your LinkedIn text and Brand Voice are sent to OpenAI using your own API key.
- License check (Pro only): Once a day, the license key and site URL are sent to our license server.
Nothing happens for visitors of your site: the plugin works in the WordPress admin and outputs nothing from LinkedIn on the front end.
Do I need consent in my cookie banner?
Consent is usually required when information is stored on or read from a visitor’s device, for example by tracking pixels or embedded feeds (EU ePrivacy Directive; in Germany § 25 TDDDG). Social Publisher embeds none of these. A LinkedIn Insight Tag or an embedded LinkedIn feed from another plugin, on the other hand, would be a topic for your cookie banner.
Do I need a data processing agreement?
- For posting to LinkedIn: LinkedIn processes your posts under its own terms and privacy policy, which you accepted when creating your account.
- For AI rewriting: If you send personal data into the rewrite, OpenAI acts as your processor. You then need an agreement under Art. 28 GDPR; OpenAI offers its own document for this. Without personal data in the text, the question does not arise.
What to check with other solutions
- Does the plugin load scripts or widgets from social networks on the front end?
- Does posting run through an external service of the vendor, and where is it located?
- Which data is sent to the vendor in the background, and can you turn it off?
There is an overview of common plugins in The Best WordPress Plugins for LinkedIn in 2026.

Frequently asked questions
Which WordPress plugins automate GDPR-compliant posting to LinkedIn?
What matters is which data a plugin sends where. Social Publisher loads no LinkedIn scripts or cookies on the front end, handles the login through its own OAuth proxy, and the free version sends nothing to the vendor in the background. Whether your overall setup is GDPR compliant also depends on your use of LinkedIn and, in Pro, OpenAI.
Is auto-posting to LinkedIn GDPR compliant?
Posting itself is a normal use of your LinkedIn account. Tracking pixels or embedded feeds on your site, which require consent, are the more critical part. Social Publisher embeds none of these.
Do I need to mention Social Publisher in my privacy policy?
The plugin processes no data of your site’s visitors. Whether you list it anyway, for example in the section about your LinkedIn presence, is best clarified with your data protection advisor.
